Luray RV Resort and Campground Shenandoah River
Luray RV Resort and Campground is located in Luray, VA. When coming from Interstate 81, you will need to go over a large mountain pass which can be tricky depending on the type of truck and RV you have, but we made it just fine even with our 40′ 16,500 lb fifth wheel.
When arriving at the campground, you will want to stay left and pull into the line for RV check-in. The check-in process was very simple and smooth. We even rented a golf cart and they had that fully charged and waiting for us as well.
One of the first things that you notice as you pull into the campground is not just the pool, but the large water slides that look like a mini water park inside the campground!
That is just the start to the amenities that Luray RV Resort has to offer!
Amenities and Attractions
Pool / Waterpark
This is not just your ordinary campground pool. This is an actual waterpark in a campground!
The pool itself is huge and amazing! There is a playground set in the walk-in part of the pool. There are a couple of basketball hoops and even an area with a large umbrella where you can sit and hang out.
Then, there is the waterslides!
This almost looks like a water park as you are approaching.
Definitely not something that you see at any normal campground.
Mountain Bike Track
If you are into mountain biking, or just have kids that enjoy riding their bikes up and over a few bumps and hills, then you will LOVE this part of the campgorund.
We have never seen this at a campground before, so our girls were in love riding on this for hours!
Playground
The playground is not the largest, but it fits every need that you will need at a playground. There is so much to do that the playground is the perfect size for this RV resort!
Pickleball
These are actual pickleball courts, not old tennis courts that have been converted to pickleball and have multiple confusing lines on them….. just pickleball!
Ping Pong / Bean Bag
There is a large artificial grass area for kids to run around and play tag in. There is also a couple of bean bag toss boards set up, along with two large ping pong tables underneath a massive shade cover!
This means you can enjoy some outdoor time in the shade.
RC Track
How many campgrounds have you been at that have an RC track? For us, this was our first in 2.5 years!
The track is large and has an overlook area for you to stand and operate your RC vehicle.
I didn’t know that I now need this at every campground we go to!
Golf / Walking Trail Along River
There is a large golf cart and walking trail around the campground. Our favorite part of it was taking it along the Shenandoah River.
The views were beautiful!
During the summer time you can even enter the river at a certain area and float on a tube.
Facilities
Laundry Room
The laundry room was large and had plenty of Washer and Dryers available. There are a ton of sites, so if it is a sold out weekend and everyone needs to do laundry, it could be a little bit of a waiting game for you, but I don’t foresee that happening.
Bathhouses / Comfort Stations
There were plenty of bathhouses and comfort stations located throughout the campground. We only went into one and it was very clean and well stocked.
We did not use the showers, so cannot provide any information about those.
Welcome Center
The Welcome Center was large and allowed for an easy check-in process. There is a camp store in there with all of your camping necessities and anything that you may have forgotten at home. There is also a small cafe inside that is open on the weekends that serves a small menu, including pizza!
Ways to Stay
Cabins
There are 3 different cabins to choose from, Oar, Deer and Owl. Each one is unique to itself, but also very similar. During our stay, we were only able to walk through the Oar cabin and it was stunning.
It had a large family area, large kitchen with two bedrooms downstairs. There was a patio door that led out to your back deck oasis with views of the mountains along with a fire pit. It was truly beautiful.
If you head upstairs there were four beds tucked away, each with it’s own privacy curtain and light.
Cottages
There were multiple different cottages all with different floor plans and some with ADA accessible options. All cottages contained some sort of 1 bedroom and bunk beds. There were options with bunks in the hallway, a small bunk room, a larger bunk room and then one with a bunk room, plus loft with extra beds.
Glamping Tents
We always love glamping tents, we think they are so cool. These glamping tents give you the feeling of tent camping, but with a little upgrade with electricity, lights, a small kitchen, two bedrooms and your own bathroom and shower.
Oh yea……air conditioning!
Airstream
This is by far our favorite option to stay. There is a section of Airstream rentals that just make the RV resort look beautiful, but would be so fun to stay in for the week or weekend!
There are multiple different Airstreams available and you also get your own patio area with fire pit and swinging chair.
We would highly recommend this option!
RV Sites
What would an RV resort be without RV sites? And there are definitely some RV sites here!
There are multiple different types of RV sites that range from back-in to pull-through and also deluxe sites with paved patio and a pergola. There is definitely no shortage of sites to choose from!
Campsite Experience
We had a standard back-in site with 50/30 amp and full hookups. Our site was large and was on the corner, so gave us plenty of space and an excellent view of the mountains.
The campground is brand new as of the time of this writing (October 2023) and the sites still need to settle a little bit, but they were pretty level. There was a tree at the front of the site, which is something that I will never understand why campgrounds do because it makes it more difficult to back in, but it was a pretty simple back-in process for us.
There was plenty of parking for our truck and the golf cart that we had rented.
Our view of the mountains was amazing. Our front door side windows looked out to the large mountain range and we were able to sit and have dinner with that amazing view.
Internet
There was no tree cover, which is good for us because we use Starlink for internet. We were able to get super fast speeds from Starlink while we were there.
We tested out our T-Mobile Home device and speeds were sufficient to stream and browse the internet.
We did not use the campground wifi.
