McLeod Plantation Historic Site

This plantation site was once home to over 400 African American slaves and is now a National Historic Landmark that gives visitors an opportunity to gain insight into 19th century life in rural South Carolina. On-site there are guided walking tours available that focus on topics such as slavery during this time period or how freed slaves moved forward after emancipation as well as interactive exhibits where guests can view artifacts such as tools and clothing used by people living here many years ago.

Hunting Island Lighthouse

Built in 1859, this iconic lighthouse stands tall at Hunting Island State Park offering breathtaking views from the top!
